Market

Mississippi follows the pattern for most southern states. Material date from 1865 and before is in very strong demand. Later material is of less interest to collectors, but is not ignored. There is a real paucity of material. There are few collectors of Mississippi covers, but then there are also few Mississippi covers. An approximate equilibrium exists. The limited demand could easily plummet to non-existent totally destroying the market. The limited number of collectors could expand by as few a five or ten and the market would explode and the prices skyrocket. A good collection of Mississippi is a real challenge.

Among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, Mississippi rates as the 20th state in terms of percentage of covers sold at 56.26%. It ranks 37th in terms of the value of covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at 0.69%. The overall rank is 37th. This is a ten year running average. The most recent trends are increasing.
