Market

Arizona has a very accessible territorial period, so for many years, Arizona territorial covers were in demand. The good demand, coupled with real scarcity of much of the material, led to high prices. Unfortunately, within a period of a few short years, all the serious collectors died. There were not replaced. No other state has seen demand  fall further. For a short period, there was some interest in the statehood period, but this too has lessened. There are many examples of covers which readily sold for $150.00 15 years ago, going begging for $5.00.

Among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, Arizona rates as the 27th state in terms of percentage of covers sold at 53.60%. It ranks 8th in terms of the value of covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at 2.67%. The overall rank is 10th. This is a ten year running average. The most recent trends are decreasing sharply.
