Colorado is well represented in philatelic literature. There are the works I most frequently consult:

A Checklist of Colorado Post Offices 1858-1988 by Richard W. Helbock

Colorado Post Offices by Bauer, Ozment and Willard

Colorado Territorial and Pre-Territorial Postmarks by David L. Jarrett

Colorado Illustrated Covers by Kenneth Segerstrom

Pre-Territorial Colorado Postal History by Daniel Y. Meschter

You can access my online guide of Colorado Post Offices here.

Colorado covers and postal history are avidly sought by a number of collectors. Most collectors have sought to acquire material from the entire state. The market is maturing, but scarce Colorado will command a very high price. Real opportunities exist for newer collectors by focusing on some more limited aspects of the state. Denver, for example, is under collected. The work on territorial postmarks is over 20 years old. An update would be welcome and a strong segment to collect, providing of course deep pockets are no object.

Among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, Colorado rates as the 6th state in terms of percentage of covers sold at 72.19%. It ranks 9th in terms of the value of covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at 2.48%. The overall rank is 2nd. This is a ten year running average. The most recent trends are about the same.
