The market for Missouri is in transition. For many years, the state was little collected. There is little literature. Several new collectors have begun collections of the past few years. There is now good demand for many items. This new group of collectors does not have the same prejudice for 19th century material that most mid west collectors seem to have. There is not yet a pattern of county preference, but there does seem to be a few more collectors for western Missouri than eastern Missouri.

Among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, Missouri rates as the 35th state in terms of percentage of covers sold at 49.63%. It ranks 29th in terms of the value of covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at 1.31%. The overall rank is 39th. This is a ten year running average. The most recent trends are about the same.
