New Hampshire

New Hampshire postal history is explored in:

The Postal History of New Hampshire by Chester M. Smith and John L. Kay is the definitive post office listing.

The Post Offices of New Hampshire Rarity Guide by The New Hampshire Postal History Society contains post office dates, rarity factors, and a breakdown of office by town, not just by county.

You can access my online guide of New Hampshire Post Offices here.

The market for New Hampshire covers is fairly unusual. At first glance, it appear fairly weak. On further inspection however, it does appear that one or two dealers have several very serious collector clients, collectors who seek rare items. This insular behavior fits in fairly well with the character of long time New Hampshire natives. On lesser items. the market is scattered. Most collectors collect the entire state, and there is a very strong prejudice for 19th century items.

Among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, New Hampshire rates as the 41st state in terms of percentage of covers sold at 47.33%. It ranks 15th in terms of the value of covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at 1.89. The overall rank is 32nd. This is a ten year running average. The most recent trends are about the same.
