New Mexico

New Mexico is represented in philatelic literature by:

Because of the very accessible territorial period, New Mexico has had a developed market for its covers for over 40 years. Needless to say, there have been a number of changes over the years. The great initial New Mexico territorial collections have long since been dispersed. There are very few active collectors. Most of them now concentrate only on a part of the state. A recent 25% price cut last year did not spur any new demand. I fear it may be decades before New Mexico covers come again into vogue.

Among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, New Mexico rates as the 44th state in terms of percentage of covers sold at 46.82%. It ranks 23rd in terms of the value of covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at 1.45%. The overall rank is 41st. This is a ten year running average. The most recent trends are about the same.
